Jakub Sýkora (*1984, Rakovník) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, studied at Satakunta University of Applied Sciences in Kankaanpää, Finland, and has participated in numerous artist residencies in the Czech Republic and abroad. In 2013, he received the Jan Zrzavý Award, and in 2014 he was a finalist for the Critics’ Prize.

His work, primarily painting-based, draws on a variety of structural systems, including geometry, data- and music-based patterns, and crystalline grids. These principles are present in his paintings, but they are not applied mechanically; instead, they are often disrupted or shifted, opening up and activating the composition.

His practice operates between order and disruption and is not confined to a purely technical or design-oriented approach. His paintings can also be understood as an attempt to capture a reality that, while grounded in certain rules, cannot be fully reduced to them.

The artist regularly presents his work in solo and group exhibitions in Prague and throughout the Czech Republic. His work has been exhibited, for example, at Kvalitář Gallery in Prague (2024), in a two-person exhibition with Jiří Sopko at AMB Gallery in Hradec Králové (2022), and at the Egon Schiele Art Centrum in Český Krumlov (2021). His works are held in both public and private collections in the Czech Republic and internationally.
